The first new major hotel in over eight years opened today in Tacoma near the University of Washington Tacoma. After years of planning, the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Tacoma opened its doors to its very first guests. The new eight-story hotel features 163 rooms, including 82 rooms and 81 suites, and is located at South 21st and C Street. The hotel is built on the site of the Heidelberg Brewery, right near Tacoma’s historic warehouse district and Union Station Federal Courthouse. Rates for the new hotel are expected to range from $109 to $299 a night and will include free parking and breakfast. Located within walking distance to the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center, the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Tacoma endeavors to increase Tacoma’s ability to be more competitive in bringing conventions and regional meetings to the area. The anticipated increase in convention and regional meeting business is expected to create an economic multiplier effect, providing great revenue for the community in aggregate.
